I've been struggling for over a week trying to get a production site collection restored to my virtual (using VMWARE).  After struggling with how to get a LARGE (~10 GBs) file into my virtual, when I tried to run the stsadm -o restore command, I kept getting an Access is Denied message.   I finally found this article - and have my fingers crossed that it'll solve my problem:

For some reason, the backup would not restore into my Virtual PC version - I kept getting different version error message - despite the version of MOSS are both release, and show the same version in Central Admin.  It might be that I have MOSS Enterprise in my Virtual PC and MOSS Standard in production.

 

Anyway, thought I'd share some of my struggles - and potential solutions.
